Heat Pumps in Medical Lake
A heat pump heats your home in winter and cools it in summer with one quiet outdoor unit. We size each system to the house it serves, install it with the same small crew from start to finish, and explain your rebate options before you commit.

One system for both seasons
A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel to make it. In summer it pulls heat out of your home like an air conditioner. In winter it reverses and draws heat from the outside air, even on cold days, and brings it indoors. The result is steady, even warmth and lower running costs for many homes.
Modern cold-climate models keep working well into the teens and below, which matters through an Eastern Washington winter. For the coldest nights we can pair the heat pump with your existing gas furnace or with electric backup, so the system switches over on its own and you never feel the change.
Your project stays with the same people from the first visit to the final walk-through. The person who measures your home is the person who sets the equipment and checks the startup readings, so nothing gets lost between a salesperson and an install crew.
What a heat pump project includes
- A room-by-room load calculation
- We measure rooms, windows and insulation to work out how much heating and cooling your home actually needs. Correct sizing keeps the system from short-cycling and keeps comfort even from room to room.
- Equipment matched to winter
- We recommend cold-climate units with variable-speed compressors where they make sense, and we tell you plainly when a standard model will do the job.
- Careful outdoor placement
- The outdoor unit sits on a level pad or wall bracket, raised above drifting snow and clear of roof runoff. We leave room for airflow and for future service.
- Refrigerant lines and electrical
- Line sets are insulated, pressure-tested and evacuated before any refrigerant is released. Wiring and the disconnect are run neatly and secured, and the thermostat is set up for the backup heat you have.
- Paperwork for incentives
- Many qualifying heat pumps are eligible for an Avista rebate and a federal tax credit. We walk you through both claims and hand over the model numbers and efficiency ratings each form requires.
- Repair and service
- If your existing heat pump is struggling, we diagnose it and give you a written quote before any work begins. Many owners keep theirs running well with one of our maintenance plans.
Signs a heat pump is worth a look
High winter bills
If electric baseboards or an aging furnace are driving up your heating costs, a heat pump often heats the same space for less energy.
An old air conditioner
When your AC is near the end of its life, replacing it with a heat pump gives you cooling plus efficient heat for a similar visit.
Uneven rooms
Cold bedrooms and warm hallways usually point to a system that is oversized or poorly balanced. Proper sizing helps.
Constant auxiliary heat
If your current heat pump shows emergency or aux heat most of the winter, something is off. It may need a repair, a refrigerant check or a settings change.
Ice that will not clear
Light frost is normal in cold weather, and the unit defrosts itself. A thick block of ice that stays for hours means it needs service.
How your heat pump project runs
- 1
A first visit to your home
There is no charge for an estimate on a new installation or a replacement. We study your current system, check the electrical panel and find a good spot for the outdoor unit, then talk through the options at your pace.
- 2
A written quote
You get a written quote listing the equipment, the work and any backup heat. Nothing starts until you have approved it.
- 3
Install day
Our crew protects floors and walkways, sets the outdoor and indoor equipment, runs lines and wiring, and connects controls. Most single-system installs finish in a day.
- 4
Startup and walk-through
We check refrigerant charge, airflow and temperatures in both heating and cooling modes. Then we show you the thermostat, the filter and what normal defrost looks like, and we clean up before we leave.

What moves the cost of a heat pump
Every home is different, so we price after we have seen yours. The quote you receive is written and line-itemed, and we explain each piece so you know what you are paying for. Rebates and tax credits can offset part of the cost, and we help you claim them.
- Size and efficiency
- Larger homes need more capacity. Cold-climate and variable-speed models cost more up front and usually cost less to run.
- Backup heat choice
- Pairing with an existing furnace, adding electric backup, or relying on the heat pump alone each changes the equipment list.
- Electrical capacity
- Some older panels need a new circuit or an upgrade to carry a heat pump. We check this at the estimate so it is not a surprise later.
- Placement and access
- Long line runs, wall brackets or tight crawlspaces add labor. A straightforward spot near the indoor unit keeps things simpler.
Heat pump questions
Something not covered here? (509) 236-8362
Will a heat pump keep my home warm in January?
Yes, when it is a cold-climate model sized for your home. These units keep producing useful heat well below freezing. On the coldest nights a backup source, either your furnace or electric heat, takes over automatically. We set that switch point for your house during startup.
Do I have to remove my gas furnace?
No. Many people keep the furnace as backup and let the heat pump handle most of the season. This is called a dual-fuel setup. If your furnace is near the end of its life, we can talk about furnace installation or an all-electric option instead.
What if my home has no ducts?
Then a ductless mini-split is usually the better fit. It uses slim indoor heads mounted on the wall, connected to an outdoor unit by a small line set. Our Ductless Mini-Splits page covers how those projects run.
How do the rebates work?
Eligibility for an Avista rebate or a federal tax credit depends on the equipment's efficiency rating and your utility account. We confirm which programs fit before you pick a model, guide you through the claims, and give you the documents your application and tax filing will ask for.
My heat pump stopped working overnight. Can you come out?
Yes, at any hour. Our emergency HVAC repair runs around the clock, and a call at night or on a weekend costs nothing extra because we do not add emergency or after-hours fees. What you pay for the diagnosis is credited toward the repair, and you see a written quote before we fix anything.
Talk through a heat pump for your home
We will look at your house, your current system and your rebate options, then give you a clear written quote. The same small crew handles your job from the first visit to startup.
